JIG Racing: 2003 BARC Formula Renault Champion & 2001 British Champion

PRESS RELEASE:
James Gornall double victory at Croft!

24/25 May 2003

The Bank Holiday weekend saw the North Yorkshire Circuit of Croft host an excellent meeting of the BARC Championships. The showpiece of the two-day event being Rounds 4 and 5 of the BARC Formula Renault Championships.

Due to his astonishing impact on the series this year - the like of which has not been seen in quite some time - James Gornall, the 18 year old driver from Werrington in Peterborough, was attracting the attention of the media and public alike. James arrived at Croft leading the championship and once again confirmed his team and supporters faith in him, with a blistering performance at this meeting.

Gornall's performance over the meeting as a whole required further scrutiny just to confirm what the eyes were telling you at first glance: 2 Fastest laps, 2 Pole Positions, 2 new Lap Records (knocking 1.3seconds off the previous best!) and 2 magnificent wins in both races. The first being a lights to flag victory, the second, a testimony to Gornall's skill at overtaking, as he executed a clean and extremely impressive move on his team-mate in the last third of the race.

The pit lane reception on Gornall's return was quite emotional from both team and supporters. Often perceived as a clinical sport, this 'human' side was refreshing. The results here at Croft, now leave Gornall with a fifteen points lead in the championship.

Gornall then proceeded to perform the ceremonial duties of snipping away his novice plate - a yellow plate with black cross - from the rear of his car. This young man is here to stay!

Next stop, Oulton Park for Round 6 of the series on the 28 June 2003. Visit his website at www.jamesgornall.com to keep up to date. Further sponsorship is now being sought for James and his future career in motorsport. The returns for potential sponsors in this case seem to be guaranteed.
