Yet another karting title
12th May 2004
Report: Mike Hayden
James and his university kart team won the British University karting title at Clay Pigeon near Dorset recently, making the Gornall CV a little larger now that it has a third British title added to it. It was also the first karting title for Oxford, which should not be overlooked.
Keeping with the karting theme, especially as it is the best form of training for a racing driver as it keeps reflexes sharp, James was racing with the same team again just one week later. This time it was in a 10-hour endurance event at Spa-Franchorchamps in Belgium. Against 30 or so other teams, James and his team were lying in 2nd place when the kart broke, although James enjoyed the event immensely!
Apart from the forthcoming Formula Renault race at Oulton Park next week, where James will be bidding for his third ‘Driver of the Day’ title, he has been invited to take part in a four-man kart team. This time though he will be joined by Rob Huff, one of the British Touring Car (BTCC) Seat ‘works’ drivers, at a charity event at Daytona Raceway on 16/17 July in two months time. With other teams entered from Formula 1 circles, it should be a lot of fun for the JA Motorsport ace.
