Peterborough’s very own motor-racing star 22 year old James Gornall, had the 200,000 strong crowds on their feet over the 3 days of this years world famous Goodwood Festival of Speed. James, driving the awesome 680 horsepower supercharged Mosler MT900SC, one of the most powerful cars at the huge event, attracted massive attention with it’s striking looks, powerful exhaust note and raw speed. He raced up the hill climb circuit alongside F1 stars past and present. Names, such as Sir Stirling Moss, John Surtees, Jensen Button, David Coulthard and current F1 championship leader and good friend Lewis Hamilton.

“The Mosler was fantastic to drive. Huge power delivery and immense speed as I took it up the hill twice each day” enthused James. “This really is a race car, with indicators, and you can buy one for the road.! I understand from the marshal’s that I held the ‘unofficial’ record over the weekend for the longest ‘burnout’ off the start line.! I was achieving speeds up to 135mph on the tight circuit. In contrast, Mike Conway joined me this year, driving the new Lamborghini Murcielago, a very nice super car indeed, and he was achieving speeds of up to 112mph.! The Mosler is a very fast car, with superb handling. Even in the wet, with no electronics like traction control, all that power, and huge tyres, I still felt I could push hard without too much concern.”

James was acting in his role as Ambassador for LloydsTSB Private Banking, whilst showing off the Mosler to the world and just what a great car it is. Each day 2 lucky clients got to ride with James in the car, an experience they will never forget. The wet conditions on Sunday saw a few very expensive crashes, but James’s runs went without incident, apart from a few “high speed twitches”, as he put it, with a wry smile on his face!

“I once again got to meet some of the all time greats in motor sport, and take part in what is now recognized as probably the largest festival of its kind in the world. Worldwide Stars from all walks of sport, stage and screen attend the event. It really has become the place to be seen! I’m looking forward to next years’ event already. I spent some time with Al Unser (Snr) of Indy Car fame who had a story or two to tell, and was a really nice genuine guy. I managed to catch up with Lewis on Sunday, but only briefly. He was a little busy!”

James’ also expects his international racing career to take off soon, as he has been offered a drive in the FIA GT3 Championship, and is looking at options on a new series to run alongside the GP2 and F1 calendar.
