British GT Champions to race in 2009!
30th April 2009
The exciting news from the last couple of days was the announcement involving the 2008 British GT Champions James Gornall and Jon Barnes, who have secured a GT3 drive with Brixia Racing in the opening two rounds of the FIA GT Championship at Silverstone this coming weekend. The deal is for Silverstone only at the moment, but it presents the Gornall/Barnes combination with an opportunity to make sure their race-winning partnership is kept in the public eye.

With the addition of James and Jon, the Italian team Brixia Racing now have a strong Anglo-Italian line-up in charge of the two team Aston Martin DBRS9’s. Equipped with Pirelli rubber, the reigning British GT champions will drive the no. 10 Aston Martin, with new team-mates Leonardo Maddalena and previous race winner Marcello Zani (who finished 9th overall in 2008) in the no. 9 Aston Martin.
Now in its fourth season, the FIA GT3 European Championship is still going from strength-to-strength, providing drivers and teams with a cost effective way of competing in some of the world’s leading GT cars. The Championship provides spectators and TV viewers with action packed racing, where the teams will compete over twelve races on six of the world’s leading race circuits. So with the first two races of the twelve race season taking place at Silverstone this weekend, it means the circuit will be playing host to 40 of the world’s most evocative sports-cars on the full Grand Prix circuit.
Despite the world economic climate affecting all areas of motorsport across the globe, the FIA has received 40 full season entries representing eleven manufacturers. This is proof, if proof were needed, that the FIA GT3 European Championship is providing exactly what the teams, drivers, and sponsors want from an international motor racing championship. More details to follow in due course…
