8th March: First test in the car at Snetterton. Familiarisation only in limited track time. 22nd March: First visit to Pembrey, Wales to test. Within 2 tenths of lap record! 26th March: First visit to Croft to test. 8 tenths inside lap record! 4th April: First visit to Silverstone to test. 2nd quickest driver of the day. 11th April: First visit to Brands Hatch to test. 2 tenths off lap record! 21st April: Silverstone. First round of Championship. First ever car race. Qualified 5th out of 22 cars. Finished 4th. Set fastest lap of race and a new lap record! 10th/11th May: Pembrey. Second round, double header. Qualified Pole (inside lap record) finished first and 4th. Set fastest lap of the race. Leading Championship. 24th/25th May: Croft. Fourth/fifth round double header. Qualified 2 poles. 2 wins. 2 Fastest laps. 2 new lap records (1.3 secs inside old record)! 'Ceremonial' removal of novice plate! 22nd June: Rockingham Fully sponsored drive in the TOCA Formula Renault UK Championship. Qualified 23rd from 30 after only 45 laps in new car. Raced up to 14th in race, seen as an impressive debut in this high profile, ultra competitive series. 28th June: Oulton Park Sixth round of championship. First visit to track. Only wet testing. Qualified 6th in dry conditions. Raced up to 2nd. Set fastest lap of Race. Set new lap record! Extended Championship Lead. 13th July: Snetterton Round 7. Incident on second lap meant serious damage to front of car creating massive understeer. James still managed to bring the car home in 3rd place! 31st August Brands Hatch Round 8. First visit to track. Pole position 4 tenths inside lap record! Fastest lap of the race, equalling lap record. Finished second with back markers playing their part, but keeping an eye on the championship! Leading championship by 21 points. 20/21st September Rockingham Round 9 & 10. Simply outstanding! 2 Pole positions. 2 fastest laps 2 wins. New Lap Record, (1 second inside old one.) 5th October Donington Park Round 11 19th October Thruxton Round 12. Pole Position. 2nd to clinch the title! After 12 races in single seaters, James set 7 pole positions, won 5, recorded the fastest lap in all but 1 race, and set official new lap records at 6 of the 9 circuits visited in 2003. Quite simply, an outstanding set of statistics from a remarkable young and exciting talent. The future beckons! _____________________________ 2002 Formula ICA - 2nd in PFI club championship - Went in to last round of Super 1 Championship 3rd overall. Disaster weekend. Finished 6th in Championship. - Competed in European Championship (first venture abroad) and was the only British driver to finish all 5 heats! Fastest/top qualifier in the British Wright team. (Enough said!) Total of over 100 trophies in kart racing, being a mixture of Super 1Championship events and various club meetings. _____________________________ 2001 FORMULA TKM BRITISH CHAMPION Youngest to date Winner of Elf/Hill House Hammond Formula TKM National Championship, after winning three of the six rounds, including 4 podium finishes from 6 races – youngest Championship Class winner to date at Senior level) - Winner of PFI club championship, including many wins. - 2nd at PFI “Kartmasters” in defence of title from 2000 - I was robbed! - PFI marked my first ever victory in National Championship; went on to have 3 wins, one 3rd, one 8th and a 10th from the six round Championship to secure the title. _____________________________ January 2000 – November 2001 (aged 15) Formula Senior TKM Graduated to the Senior ranks in Formula 100 TKM. 2000 - Qualified 2nd for Formula Senior TKM Super 1Championship. Seeded 14th at year end! - Winner of prestigious PFI ‘Kartmasters’. - Winner of ‘Champions of Buckmore’ in the Elite class - 3rd in PFI club championship, including several wins. - 3rd Larkhall Super 1 Championship round - first ever podium finish at British Championship level. (apart from the final outcome of the 1999 season) _____________________________ 1999 Qualified for Super 1 Championship: - 3rd in Total/Hill House Hammond Junior TKM National championship (Super 1). - Winner PFI Club Championship, including many club wins during year. _____________________________ 1998 Qualified for Super 1 Championship again. - 3rd in PFI Club championship, including several wins and podium finishes. _____________________________ 1997 For first major Championship attempt - qualified low 20’s for Super 1. - 3rd in PFI club championship. - 4th in Fulbeck club championship. - December- Fulbeck club meeting - First victory in a main final and top step of the podium! _____________________________ 1996 Club racing at P.F International, Kimbolton and Fulbeck. 20 races in total. January 1996 – December 1999 Junior TKM Graduated to next Junior level in the Formula Junior TKM class. _____________________________ April – November 1995 Formula Cadets Competed in around 15 races after starting as a novice in April 1995. Best result 3rd placed finish at P.F International in Lincolnshire (PFI). |
